Castroverde is a small town in Spain. It is a municipality located in the Lugo province. This province is part of Galicia, which is an autonomous community in northwest Spain. Castroverde is also part of the comarca (a traditional region) called Lugo.

Castroverde is mostly a rural area. Its main activities involve farming, especially producing milk and meat. There are also some farms that raise rabbits and poultry. Recently, rural tourism has become popular, with a few small hotels for visitors. Because farming uses more machines now, fewer people are needed for work. This has caused Castroverde's population to shrink over the years.

The area is divided into 37 smaller parts called parishes. These parishes were originally set up by the church. They are full of interesting old things like archeological sites, churches, chapels, and waterwheels. You can also find pazos here, which are traditional Galician country houses. There are also remains of an important old castle in Castroverde.

Exploring Castroverde's Landscape

The land in Castroverde is a mix of flat areas and mountains. As you go east, the land gets higher, leading to mountain ranges like Sierras de Moneiro, O Mirador (which has a peak called Pradairo at 1034 meters), A Baqueriza (836 meters), and Puñago.

Many small rivers flow down from these mountains. The Guimaras, Azúmara, Romean, Outeiro, and Tórdea rivers all flow into the larger Minho river.

Castroverde's Climate

Castroverde has an oceanic climate, meaning it's influenced by the ocean. However, it also has some continental features, which means bigger temperature changes. In winter, temperatures can be around 5.6 °C in January. Summers are mild, with temperatures around 17.7 °C. The area gets about 1,000 millimeters of rain each year.

A Glimpse into Castroverde's History

An important historical event happened in Castroverde long ago. King Silo of Asturias, who ruled from 774 to 783, stopped a rebellion by Galician nobles. This happened in the parish of Montecubeiro, which is part of Castroverde.
