Cataract Falls is a beautiful waterfall located in Owen County, in the state of Indiana. It's known as the largest waterfall in Indiana by the amount of water flowing over it. This amazing natural spot is part of the Lieber State Recreation Area, a great place for outdoor adventures.

Discovering Cataract Falls

Cataract Falls is actually made up of two main sections of waterfalls. These are called the Upper Falls and the Lower Falls. They are found along a stream called Mill Creek. The two sections are about one mile apart from each other.

The Upper and Lower Falls

Both the Upper and Lower Falls have several drops, meaning the water tumbles down in a series of steps. The Upper Falls is taller, dropping about 45 feet (14 m) in total. The Lower Falls is a bit shorter, with a total drop of around 30 feet (9.1 m). Seeing the water rush over these drops is a really cool experience!

Where to Find the Falls

Right after the Lower Falls, Mill Creek flows into the southern part of Cagles Mill Lake. This area is close to the small towns of Cunot and Cataract. Getting to the falls is easy, as they are located just off State Road 42 and close to State Road 243. It's a popular spot for visitors to enjoy nature.
