The name "Cataula" comes from the Muscogee language. This language was spoken by Native American people who lived in the area long ago. The word kitali means "withered mulberry."
Cataula is located near a stream called Cataula Creek. This creek flows into another one nearby called Mulberry Creek.

Cataula is in the state of Georgia. It is about 16 miles (26 km) northeast of a larger city called Columbus. If you travel north, it's about 33 miles (53 km) to LaGrange. The big city of Atlanta is about 93 miles (150 km) away by road to the northeast.
The area sits on a hilly landform called the Piedmont region. This means it's a bit higher up, about 692 feet (211 meters) above sea level.
