Cateel is a municipality in the Davao Oriental province of the Philippines. It is home to about 44,207 people, according to the 2020 census.
This town is famous for the amazing Aliwagwag Falls. It's located in the Aliwagwag Protected Landscape. These waterfalls are considered the highest in the Philippines! They look like a giant stairway to heaven. The falls have 84 steps, with different heights. Some steps are 2 meters tall, while others are 33.5 meters. The entire Aliwagwag Falls is about 340 meters high and 20 meters wide. All of this beauty is surrounded by a natural forest. A river flows at the bottom of the falls, with 13 rapids to explore.

History of Cateel
Cateel holds a special place in history. It was the first municipality in Mindanao where Spanish explorers arrived. This led many of its first residents to become Catholic.
Over time, some areas within Cateel grew. In 1959, Mainit and Alegria became official villages, known as barangays.
In December 2012, Cateel was hit very hard by a powerful storm called Typhoon Bopha. The typhoon caused a lot of damage to the town.
