A river flows at the bottom, with 13 rapids to cross. All of this is surrounded by a beautiful, untouched forest.

Cateel holds a special place in history. It was the first town in Mindanao where Spanish explorers landed. Because of this, many of its first residents became Catholic.

In 1959, two areas called Mainit and Alegria became official villages, known as barangays.

Cateel faced a big challenge in December 2012. A very strong storm called Typhoon Bopha hit the town hard. It caused a lot of damage to homes and the area.
