Typhoon Bopha facts for kids
Typhoon Bopha (also known as Typhoon Pablo) was a very strong storm that happened in December 2012. It was a type of storm called a tropical cyclone, which is like a giant spinning storm system over warm ocean waters. Typhoon Bopha first hit Palau, an island nation. There, it destroyed many homes and caused power outages, meaning the electricity went out.
After Palau, the typhoon moved towards the Philippines. It caused a lot of damage, especially on the island of Mindanao. Sadly, over 600 people died because of the storm.
Because of how many people died and how much destruction it caused, the names Pablo and Bopha were officially "retired." This means these names will not be used again for future typhoons.
