This cathedral is a special place for people who follow the Catholic faith. It's the main church for the Diocese of Barinas. A "diocese" is like a church district, and this one was created a long time ago, on July 23, 1965. The cathedral is named after the Virgin Mary, a very important figure in the Catholic Church.
