Catherine Greenhill is a smart Australian mathematician. She studies interesting topics like random graphs, which are like networks where connections are made by chance. Becoming a Mathematician
Catherine Greenhill went to the University of Queensland in Australia for her first university degrees. She then earned her Ph.D. in 1996 from the University of Oxford in England. A Ph.D. is the highest degree you can get at a university. Her special project for her Ph.D. was about "Multisets to Matrix Groups."
After finishing her studies, Dr. Greenhill worked as a researcher at other universities. She worked at the University of Leeds in England and the University of Melbourne in Australia. In 2003, she joined the University of New South Wales. She became an associate professor there in 2014. She was the first woman mathematician to get this promotion at UNSW.
Awards and Recognition
Dr. Greenhill has received several important awards for her work. In 2010, she won the Hall Medal from the Institute of Combinatorics and its Applications. This award is given for excellent research in a field of math called combinatorics.
She was also the president of the Combinatorial Mathematics Society of Australasia from 2011 to 2013. This is a group for mathematicians who study combinatorics in Australia and New Zealand.
In 2015, the Australian Academy of Science gave her the Christopher Heyde Medal. This medal is for important research in math. In 2022, she was chosen to be a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science. This means she is recognized as one of Australia's top scientists.
