Cathy Boswell, born on November 10, 1962, is a talented American former basketball player. She is well-known for competing in the 1984 Summer Olympics. Before becoming a professional player, she played college basketball for Illinois State University. After college, she went on to play professionally in different countries around the world.

Playing for Team USA
Cathy Boswell had a fantastic career playing for the United States national basketball team. She represented her country in several important international competitions, earning multiple medals.
Early Tournaments: Jones Cup
Cathy first joined the USA team for the 1980 William Jones Cup in Taipei, Taiwan. Her team played very well, winning seven out of nine games. They ended up in a three-way tie for first place! After a tie-breaker, the USA team proudly earned a bronze medal.
Two years later, in 1982, Cathy was again chosen for the USA team. They had an amazing start, winning their first seven games in a row! However, they faced an undefeated team from Canada, who beat the USA 70–67. This close game meant the USA team took home the silver medal.
Winning Gold at the World University Games
In 1983, Cathy represented the USA at the World University Games. These games were held in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The team was coached by Jill Hutchison.
The USA team faced a challenge when they lost to Romania in an early game. This meant they had to win every game after that to have a chance at a medal. They showed great teamwork and determination! The team bounced back to win a very close game against Yugoslavia, 86–85. They also got a rematch against Romania. Even though the USA team was behind at halftime, they came back strong in the second half. They won the game 83–61 and proudly claimed the gold medal! During this tournament, Cathy averaged 4.7 points per game.
Olympic Preparation and Gold Medal
In 1984, the USA national team traveled to Taipei, Taiwan, for the William Jones Cup competition. This trip was important because it served as practice before the upcoming Olympics. The team played incredibly well, easily beating all eight teams they faced. They won their games by a huge average of almost 50 points! Cathy averaged 7.0 points per game during this successful pre-Olympic tournament.
After their strong performance in Taiwan, Cathy continued with the national team to represent the USA at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. The team was unstoppable, winning all six of their games. This perfect record led them to win the gold medal, a huge achievement for Cathy and her teammates! She averaged 4.0 points per game during the Olympic tournament.
