Catí is a small town in Spain. It is a municipality located in the Alt Maestrat area. This region is part of the Castellón province in the Valencia region.

Catí shares its borders with several other towns. These include Ares del Maestrat, Morella, Chert, Tírig, La Salzadella, Sant Mateu, and Albocàsser. All these towns are also in the Castellón province.

Where is Catí located?

Catí is found about 661 meters (2,169 feet) above sea level. It sits in a wide valley known as the "Catí Corridor." This area is in the Alt Maestrat region.

Geographically, Catí is important because it marks a boundary. It's where the Ports region (which Catí historically belonged to) meets the Baix Maestrat. This area is also a mountainous zone. It connects the El Ports mountains near Morella with other mountains of the Maestrat, like Serra de Vallivana, Serra d'En Celler, Tossal de la Nevera, and Tossal de la Barbuda.

What are the villages in Catí?

The municipality of Catí includes several smaller villages and hamlets. These are like tiny communities or neighborhoods within the larger Catí area.

What is Catí's history?

Catí has a long and interesting history. On January 25, 1239, a person named Blasco of Alagón gave Catí to be settled. He gave it to Ramon de Bocona and forty other people. King James I of Aragon later confirmed this decision.

It is believed that these first settlers came from the area of Lleida. Ramon de Bocona was known for his loyalty. His family shield even shows a walking dog, which is a symbol of being actively loyal.

Catí has been involved in many important historical events. These events often happened alongside the nearby town of Morella. For example, knights from Catí helped in the conquest of places like Mazalquivir, Oran, and Bougie. They sailed on a ship that belonged to the leader of Morella.

Even though they fought together, Catí and other nearby villages started a legal disagreement with Morella in 1292. This disagreement was about certain rights and boundaries. It took a very long time to resolve, finally being settled in 1691.
