Caucagua has a long and interesting history. The area where Caucagua now stands was first settled around 1690. It was known back then as Valle de Araguata.
How Caucagua Got Its Name
The town was officially re-established in 1752. It was given the name Caucagua at that time. Later, in 1784, a religious leader named Bishop Mariano Martí gave it a longer, more formal name: Nuestra Señora del Valle de la Santa Cruz de Caucagua.
