Cazenovia was started in 1884. It was founded by early settlers, also known as pioneers. These pioneers came from a place called Madison County, New York. They named the new community "Cazenovia" after a town and a lake in their home county.
Life in Early Cazenovia
For many years, Cazenovia was an active place. It had its own post office, which opened in 1885. This post office helped people send and receive letters and packages. It was a very important service for the community. The post office stayed open until 1938.
Cazenovia also had a train station. This station was part of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway. Train stations were vital for small towns. They helped people travel and goods be transported. This connection to the railway made Cazenovia an important stop for a while.
