Cecil Leonard (July 20, 1946 – August 5, 2020) was an American professional football player. He played as a defensive back for two seasons with the New York Jets. The Jets were part of the American Football League (AFL) and later the National Football League (NFL).
Cecil Leonard was chosen by the Jets in the eighth round of the 1969 NFL Draft. Before becoming a professional, he played college football at Tuskegee University. He also went to East Highland High School in Sylacauga, Alabama. Later in his career, Leonard also played for the Birmingham Americans in the World Football League (WFL).

Playing Professional Football
Cecil Leonard was picked by the New York Jets in the 1969 AFL Draft. He was the 208th player chosen overall. He played for the Jets during the 1969 and 1970 football seasons. After his time with the Jets, he joined the Birmingham Americans for their 1974 season in the World Football League.
Coaching Football Teams
After his playing career, Cecil Leonard became a successful football coach.
High School Coaching
He started coaching at A. H. Parker High School in Alabama. He led the "Thundering Herd" team from 1973 to 1974. His team had a record of 9 wins and 10 losses during this time.
From 1975 to 1979, he coached the "Pacesetters" at Carol W. Hayes High School. He helped this team reach the state playoffs in 1976.
Leonard returned to A. H. Parker High School as head coach from 1980 to 1992. During his second time there, his teams made it to the playoffs six different times.
College Coaching
Later, Cecil Leonard became a college football coach. He was the head coach for the Miles Golden Bears team at Miles College. He coached them from 1994 to 2000. His overall record as a college coach was 27 wins, 41 losses, and 1 tie.
