Cecil L. Thomas, born on October 21, 1952, is an American politician. He also used to be a police officer. Since 2023, he has been a member of the Ohio House of Representatives. He represents the 25th district in Ohio. Before this, he served in the Ohio Senate from 2015 to 2022. In the Senate, he represented the 9th district.
About Cecil Thomas
Early Life and Education
Cecil Thomas was born in a rural area of northern Alabama. When he was young, his family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. He attended and graduated from Withrow High School.
In 1974, Thomas earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He studied law enforcement technology at the University of Cincinnati. Later, he earned another Bachelor of Science degree. This one was in criminal justice management from the Union Institute & University.
Career as a Public Servant
After finishing high school, Cecil Thomas joined the Cincinnati police cadet program. He then became a police officer for the city of Cincinnati. He served the community for 27 years.
In 2005, Thomas retired from the police force. He then decided to run for a seat on the Cincinnati City Council. He won the election and served on the City Council for eight years.
In 2014, Thomas decided to run for the Ohio Senate. The person holding the seat, Eric Kearney, could not run again. This was because of term limits. Many Democrats wanted to win the nomination. Thomas won the primary election. He then faced a Republican opponent, Charlie Winburn. Thomas won the election with 56% of the votes.
In 2021, Cecil Thomas was a candidate for the 2021 Cincinnati mayoral election. He finished third among six candidates.
