Cecilia Bolocco was chosen as Miss Chile for the Miss Universe pageant on April 20, 1987. Just over a month later, on May 26, 1987, she competed against 67 other contestants. She won the title, becoming the first person from Chile to win Miss Universe.

The pageant was held in Singapore that year. During her year as Miss Universe, Cecilia lived in Los Angeles, California. Her win was the last Miss Universe pageant hosted by Bob Barker.

Life After the Crown

After her reign as Miss Universe, Cecilia Bolocco started a career in television in Chile. She hosted a show called Porque hoy es sábado ("Because it's Saturday"). Later, she co-hosted Martes 13 ("Tuesday the 13th"). This show's name was a play on words, as Tuesday the 13th is considered an unlucky day in Chile.

In March 1990, Cecilia married American TV producer Michael Young. Their wedding in Santiago was a big event, covered widely by the local media.

Working in American Television

In June 1990, Cecilia moved to Atlanta, Georgia. She began working as an anchorwoman for the Spanish section of CNN. This section was made for the Telemundo Network. She then became a full part of the Telemundo family. She hosted an afternoon show about lifestyles called La Buena Vida ("The Good Life").

This show later joined with a news program called Ocurrió así ("It Happened This Way"). After that, she hosted Esta noche con Cecilia Bolocco ("Tonight With Cecilia Bolocco"). For her work on these shows, she won two Emmy awards.
