History of Cedar Hill
Cedar Hill got its name from the many cedar trees that grew on a nearby hill. A post office was opened in Cedar Hill way back in 1868. This helped the community grow and connect with other places.
Geography and Location
Cedar Hill is about 32 miles (51 km) southwest of downtown St. Louis. A major road, Missouri Route 30, goes through the western part of Cedar Hill. This highway helps people travel northeast to St. Louis or west to St. Clair.
Land and Water Features
The community covers an area of about 2.29 square miles (5.9 square kilometers). All of this area is land. The Big River flows along the southern and western edges of Cedar Hill. This river is a branch of the Meramec River. Cedar Hill is also home to an old mill and a dam on the Big River.
