The Cedars is a neighborhood in Dallas, Texas, in the United States. It is located just south of downtown. You can find it next to Interstate 30. It is also east of Austin Street and north of Corinth Street. The neighborhood is west of the 75 & 345 Overpasses. These overpasses are just east of South Good Latimer Expy.

History of The Cedars Neighborhood
The Cedars area first started growing in the 1870s. At that time, it had many homes that were not too expensive. But by the late 1800s, things changed a lot. The Cedars became a very popular place in Dallas. Rich business people, lawyers, and politicians built large, beautiful Victorian homes there.
The Cedars was also home to Dallas's Jewish community. The Shaareth Israel synagogue was located in the neighborhood. Stanley Marcus, who later became famous for Neiman Marcus stores, was born here.
By the early 1900s, the neighborhood started to change again. More factories and businesses moved in. The city's population grew, and many wealthy families began moving north. They went to new neighborhoods northeast of downtown. Even as industries like the Sears-Roebuck warehouse arrived, nice homes were still built. Many well-off Jewish families continued to live there.
However, by the 1920s, most of the big Victorian homes were gone. The synagogue was taken down, and many people moved away. In the 1960s, almost all the remaining homes were destroyed. The city cleared them for new highway projects. Today, only a few original homes are left. They are not in their original restored condition.
For over 20 years, The Cedars has been a place for artists, musicians, and people who like city living. Recently, the area has started to change again. New townhomes and renovated warehouse lofts have appeared. There are also new apartments and other developments. These include DART's Cedars Station. Another big development is Southside on Lamar, which has lofts and shops. The Dallas Police Headquarters is also located here.
In June 2015, the Dallas Police Headquarters in Cedars was involved in a serious incident.

The Dallas Independent School District serves this neighborhood. Students attend the following schools:
- Martin Luther King Learning Center
- Billy Earl Dade Middle School
- James Madison High School (This school was first called Forest Avenue High School)
City Park Elementary School was in The Cedars. It opened in 1919 and was named because it was across from Old City Park. The school served the community until it closed in 2012. In 2013, the building was used for an after-school program. Since 2014, a non-profit group called Vogel Alcove has leased the school building. They provide day care and preschool for children experiencing homelessness.
