Centennial Place is a large office building complex in downtown Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It has two main towers. One tower is 39 storeys tall, and the other is 23 storeys tall.

About Centennial Place

Centennial Place was named to celebrate Alberta's 100th birthday as a province. Construction on the complex began in 2006 and finished in 2010. It cost about $320 million to build.

The complex has a huge underground parking garage with five levels. It can hold 793 cars. The office space inside is very large, covering about 1,200,000 square feet.

Building Design and Height

The taller tower, called Centennial Place I, has 39 floors. Its roof reaches a height of about 165 meters (542 feet). A spire on top makes it even taller, reaching about 182 meters (599 feet).

The shorter tower, Centennial Place II, has 23 floors. Its roof is about 100 meters (328 feet) high. It also has a spire, which makes its total height about 117 meters (386 feet).

As of 2020, Centennial Place I was ranked as the 8th tallest building in Calgary. It was also the 52nd tallest building in Canada.

Eco-Friendly Features

Centennial Place was designed to be very good for the environment. It has many special features to save energy and water.

  • Special Walls: The outside walls (called curtain walls) help keep the building warm in winter and cool in summer.
  • Smart Lighting: Lights have motion sensors. This means they turn on only when people are in a room, saving electricity.
  • Water Saving: The plumbing fixtures use less water than older ones.
  • Efficient Heating and Cooling: The system that heats and cools the building is very energy-efficient.
  • Green Roof: About 30% of the roof is covered with plants. This helps keep the building cool and manages rainwater.

Because of these features, Centennial Place earned special environmental awards. It received the LEED Gold certification for its design and construction. It also got LEED Platinum for how it operates and is maintained.
