Central Massachusetts facts for kids
Central Massachusetts is a special area right in the middle of the state of Massachusetts. While people have slightly different ideas about its exact borders, it usually includes all of Worcester County and a small part of Middlesex County in the northwest. The biggest city in this region is Worcester. It's often seen as the main hub for culture and activities in Central Massachusetts. Other important cities here are Fitchburg, Gardner, Leominster, and sometimes Marlborough.
Getting Around Central Massachusetts
Many important roads help people travel through Central Massachusetts. The Massachusetts Turnpike (Interstate 90) is a major highway that goes through the southern part of Worcester County.
Other big highways in the area include I-190, I-290, I-395, and I-495 on the eastern side. Route 2 is another key road that runs from east to west across the northern part of Worcester County. Other important routes are Route 9, Route 146, and U.S. Route 20.
