About the Cordillera Giant Glass Frog
What Does It Look Like?
Male Centrolene notosticta frogs are quite small. They are about 19 to 23 millimeters long. That's less than an inch! They have a flat-looking snout. Their back, called the dorsum, feels rough. It has tiny spines on it.
This frog is special because of how it lays eggs. Most frogs in its group lay eggs on the top of leaves. But the Centrolene notosticta female places her eggs on the undersides of leaves.
Where Does It Live?
The cordillera giant glass frog lives in old cloud forests. These are forests high in the mountains. They are often covered in clouds or mist. You can find these frogs on plants near streams. Their babies, called tadpoles, grow up in the water of these streams.
These frogs live at high elevations. They are found between 1,600 and 2,440 meters above sea level. That's like living on top of a very tall mountain!
Is It Safe?
The Centrolene notosticta is a common frog. There are many of them. But their homes are sometimes lost due to human activity. Also, new animals like trout can sometimes harm them. Even with these challenges, this frog is not currently in danger of disappearing.
