Where Redtail Damselflies Live
You can find redtail damselflies in countries like Indonesia, the Maluku Islands, New Guinea, and Australia. They might also live in the Solomon Islands.
These damselflies prefer certain places to live. Their natural habitats include freshwater swamps, ponds, and slow-moving streams. In Australia, they are found in suitable areas across the northern parts of the continent.
What Redtails Look Like
The adult redtail damselfly is a medium-sized insect. Its wingspan is about 50 millimeters (2 inches), and its body length is around 45 millimeters (1.7 inches).
Most of its body is red. However, the part of its body behind the head, called the synthorax (or chest area), becomes a pale green color as the damselfly gets older.
Redtails and Conservation
The redtail damselfly's conservation status has been checked by the IUCN Red List. This list helps us know if animals are in danger. The redtail is listed as "Least Concern." This means it is not currently at risk of disappearing.
