Cerrito, officially known as Cerrito de la Victoria, is a cool barrio (which means neighborhood or district) located in Montevideo, Uruguay. Most of this area sits on a small hill. The name cerrito actually means "little hill" in Spanish!
On top of this hill, you'll find a very special church called the National Shrine of the Heart of Jesus. This hill also has a lot of history. Long ago, during a big event called the Great Siege of Montevideo, a temporary government led by General Oribe was set up right here.
Where is Cerrito Located?
Cerrito de la Victoria is surrounded by several other neighborhoods. To its west, you'll find Aires Puros. To the north is Las Acacias. If you go east, you'll reach Pérez Castellanos. And to the south, it borders Bolívar and Brazo Oriental.
