Cerro Saroche National Park (which means Parque Nacional Cerro Saroche in Spanish) is a special protected area in Venezuela. It is located in Lara state, between the cities of Barquisimeto and Carora. This amazing national park was created in 1989 to protect its unique environment.

The park is found in a large, dry area in northwest Venezuela. This region is called the Carora Depression. The land inside the park has rolling hills, flat plains, and mountains. These mountains can be between 300 and 1300 meters high. The park covers a big area of 32,294 hectares.

What's the Weather Like?

The average temperature in Cerro Saroche National Park is about 27 degrees Celsius. The park gets between 300 and 600 millimeters of rain each year. This rain usually falls during two main periods. The first rainy season is from May to June. The second, and often heavier, rainy season is from October to December.

Plants and Animals You Might See

Even though it's a dry area, Cerro Saroche National Park is home to interesting plants. One special plant is an orchid called Schoromburquia humboldtiana. You can often find this orchid in the higher, more humid parts of the park.

Protecting the Park

Like many natural places, Cerro Saroche National Park faces some challenges. Certain plants that are not native to the area, like Kalanchoe daigremontana and Stapelia gigantea, have started to grow there. These are called invasive species. They can spread quickly and make it harder for the park's native plants to grow and thrive. Protecting the park means managing these invasive plants to keep the natural balance.
