Cethan Carter, born on September 5, 1995, is a former American professional football player. He played as a tight end and fullback in the National Football League (NFL). Carter was part of the Cincinnati Bengals and Miami Dolphins teams. Before joining the NFL, he played college football for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Early Life and High School Football

Cethan Carter grew up playing football in Metairie, Louisiana. He attended Archbishop Rummel High School. During his time there, he played in several positions. These included tight end, H-back, and fullback.

In his senior year, 2012, Carter caught 23 passes. He gained 418 yards and scored 5 touchdowns. His great performance earned him Honorable Mention All-State honors. That same year, his high school team had an amazing 14–0 record. They won the Louisiana Class 5A state championship. Carter also played basketball for Rummel High. He helped his basketball team reach the state quarterfinals in 2012.

College Football Career

Carter played college football for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He was a student at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln from 2013 to 2016. He studied criminology and criminal justice while in college.

Freshman Year (2013)

In 2013, Carter played in 13 games and started 6 of them. He caught 10 passes for 127 yards. He was recognized as a True Freshman All-American by 247Sports. He also received Honorable Mention All-Freshman honors from the Big Ten Conference.

Sophomore Year (2014)

During 2014, Carter played in 9 games and started 8. He caught 6 passes for 98 yards and scored 1 touchdown. He missed four games in the middle of the season due to a foot injury.

Junior Year (2015)

Carter missed the first two games of the 2015 season. After that, he played in and started the remaining 11 games. He caught 24 passes for 329 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also ran the ball twice for 48 yards. One of these runs was a 32-yard rushing touchdown. This made him the first tight end in Nebraska's history to score a rushing touchdown. The media named Carter Honorable Mention All-Big Ten for his performance in 2015.

Senior Year (2016)

In 2016, Carter played in 10 games, starting all of them. He caught 19 passes for 190 yards and 1 touchdown. He also rushed three times for 34 yards. During the season, he missed three full games and most of another due to an elbow injury. Both the media and coaches named him Honorable Mention All-Big Ten in 2016.

College Career Totals

Throughout his college career, Carter played in 43 games and started 35. He caught a total of 59 passes for 744 yards and 4 touchdowns. His 59 receptions ranked fifth all-time for a tight end at Nebraska. He also rushed 5 times for 84 yards and 1 touchdown.

Professional Football Career

Cethan Carter entered the NFL after college. He was considered one of the top tight ends in the 2017 NFL draft.

Cincinnati Bengals

After the 2017 NFL Draft, Carter signed with the Cincinnati Bengals on May 5, 2017. He joined the team as an undrafted player.

In 2018, Carter was placed on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury. This meant he could not play for the season.

On December 15, 2019, Carter scored his first NFL touchdown. This happened in a game against the New England Patriots. He finished that season with two catches for 13 yards. He was also a key player on the Bengals' special teams. He made 16 special teams tackles.

Carter signed a new one-year contract with the Bengals on April 17, 2020.

Miami Dolphins

On March 18, 2021, Cethan Carter signed a three-year contract. He joined the Miami Dolphins team.

On October 8, 2022, Carter was placed on injured reserve again. The Dolphins released him from the team on March 7, 2023.
