Cevdet Yılmaz was born on April 1, 1967. He is a Turkish politician who has been the Vice President of Turkey since June 2023. He is the second person to hold this important role.

Before becoming Vice President, Mr. Yılmaz held several other key positions in the Turkish government. He served as a Deputy Prime Minister for a short time in 2015. He was also the Minister of Development from 2011 to 2015, and again from 2015 to 2016.

Early Life and Education

Cevdet Yılmaz was born in a village called Şabanköy, Bingöl, in Turkey. His family belongs to the Zaza ethnic group. He finished high school in Bingöl in 1983.

After high school, he went to Middle East Technical University. In 1988, he graduated with high honors from the Public Administration department.

In 1989, he started working at the State Planning Organization. This organization helps plan how the country's economy and development should grow.

Mr. Yılmaz also studied in the United States. From 1992 to 1994, he studied International Relations at the University of Denver. Later, he earned a doctorate degree from Bilkent University in Political Science and Public Administration.

Political Career

Cevdet Yılmaz began his political journey by focusing on international relations. In 2003, he was put in charge of the department that handles Turkey's relationship with the European Union.

In 2007, he was elected as a representative for Bingöl in the Turkish Parliament. This was his first time serving as a Member of Parliament.

Important Government Roles

Mr. Yılmaz took on more important roles in the government over the years:

• Minister of State: In May 2009, he became a Minister of State in the government led by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
• Minister of Development: In July 2011, he became the Minister of Development. In this role, he helped plan and guide projects to improve Turkey's economy and infrastructure. He held this position until August 2015.
• Deputy Prime Minister: From August to November 2015, he served as a Deputy Prime Minister. This is a very senior role, helping the Prime Minister manage the government.
• Minister of Development (again): He returned to his role as Minister of Development from November 2015 to May 2016.

Parliament and Vice Presidency

From November 2020 to June 2023, Mr. Yılmaz was the Chairman of the Turkish Parliament’s Planning and Budget Commission. This committee is very important for deciding how the government spends money.

On June 3, 2023, Cevdet Yılmaz was appointed as the Vice President of Turkey. In this role, he works closely with the President and helps lead the country.
