Chubu Centrair International Airport (中部国際空港, Chūbu Kokusai Kūkō) is a big airport in central Japan. It is built on an artificial island in Ise Bay. This island is near Tokoname City in Aichi Prefecture. The airport is about 35 kilometers (22 miles) south of Nagoya.

Centrair is a very important airport. It is known as a first-class airport in Japan. It helps connect the Chubu area of Japan to the rest of the world. The Chubu region is the "central" part of Japan. Centrair is one of Japan's special airports built on a man-made island. It was the second airport in Japan to be built this way.

Exploring the Airport Terminals

The main building at Centrair Airport looks like a "T" from above. It has a central area for tickets and three long sections called piers. This design helps people get to their flights quickly. You usually don't have to walk more than 300 meters (980 feet) to check in.

How Flights Are Organized

The airport terminal is split into two main parts. The northern side is for flights that stay within Japan. These are called domestic flights. The southern side is for flights going to other countries. These are called international flights.

Each side has its own areas for:

Buying tickets
Security checks
Picking up your bags

For international flights, there are also special areas. These are for immigration and customs. When you arrive, you go to the second floor. When you are leaving, you go to the third floor. The lowest floor is for airport staff and services. It is also where buses take passengers to planes. There are 13 gates for domestic flights. There are 14 gates for international flights.

Shopping and Fun at Centrair

Centrair Airport has a cool shopping area on its 4th floor. It is called the Sky Town Shopping Center. Anyone can visit this area, even if they are not flying. It has 61 different shops and places to eat.

Unique Shopping Streets

The shops are set up along two special "streets." One is called Renga-dori. The other is called Chochin-yokocho. The shops in Chochin-yokocho are designed to look like traditional Japanese buildings. This gives visitors a real taste of Japan.
