About Cha Cha Malone
Early Life: Art, Music, and Dance
Cha Cha Malone was born in Seattle, Washington. His mother is Filipino, and his father is African-American. He was raised by his mother, and his grandmother was also a very important person in his life.
From a young age, Malone loved art and illustration. This was his first way to express himself creatively. When he was 7, he started playing the piano by ear, meaning he could play songs just by listening to them. His mother, who used to sing in a band, inspired him a lot.
In third grade, Malone wrote rap verses. He discovered how to make beats using computers in 2000, when he found an early version of a music program called FL Studio. When he was 12 and in middle school, Malone joined the world of b-boying with his friends. They were part of the Seattle-based b-boy crew, Art of Movement. In 2006, he even appeared on an episode of MTV's show Made.
Malone studied at The Art Institute of Seattle and graduated in 2009. He earned a degree in Media Arts and Animation. Even though his classes were long and homework was tough, he always found time to make music.
Working with Jay Park and K-pop
In 2009, Jay Park, who was also a member of Art of Movement, returned to Seattle from South Korea. Malone sent him a collection of beats to see if they could work together. Since then, Malone and Park have become a strong team, producing and writing many songs.
In October 2010, their first songs came out online. These included their duet, "Speechless", and Jay Park's song, "Bestie". In 2011, Malone produced four songs for Jay Park's music collection, Take A Deeper Look. This collection even won a Golden Disk Award!
Also in 2011, Malone created his own music collection called Breakthrough. The main song, "I Still", is one of his favorites because it was inspired by his own feelings. He also released "Single Life", which featured Jay Park, as a free download.
In 2012, Malone started working with more and more K-pop artists and groups. He joined a production team called Iconic Sounds LLC. This team worked on albums for famous groups like Girls' Generation and BoA. In February 2012, Jay Park's first full album, New Breed, was released. Malone produced five songs on this album. The album was very successful, selling over 100,000 copies in South Korea and reaching number 1 on music charts.
Malone and Park also worked together on "Can't Stop" for Brian Joo and "4U (For You)" for U-KISS. They even created a song called "Polaris" for the K-pop girl group Tiny-G on a TV show. Malone produced several songs for Jay Park's 2012 music collection, Fresh Air: Breathe It. In October 2012, he produced "One Love" for the boy band B1A4. He also worked with Mackenzie Thoms, a singer from American Idol.
