Chad Spann, born on August 4, 1988, is a former American professional football player. He played as a running back, which is a player who primarily runs with the football. Chad played college football for the Northern Illinois Huskies. After college, he joined the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League (NFL) in 2011. He was signed as an undrafted free agent, meaning he wasn't chosen in the NFL draft but was still offered a contract by a team.
In 2010, during his senior year of college, Chad had an amazing season. He ran for 1,388 yards and scored 22 touchdowns, which was the most in the nation that year. His efforts helped the Huskies win 11 games, their best season ever at that time.

Chad Spann grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana. He went to North Central High School. While playing football there, he was chosen as a first-team all-state player in his senior year. He still holds the school records for the most rushing yards and touchdowns in a single season and throughout a player's career.
College Football Career
At Northern Illinois University, Chad Spann continued to be a star player. He set a new record for the most touchdowns scored in a single season for the Northern Illinois team. He also received the Vern Smith Leadership Award, which is a special award given by the Mid-American Conference to a player who shows great leadership.

Indianapolis Colts
On July 29, 2011, Chad signed with the Indianapolis Colts. Unfortunately, he was placed on injured reserve on September 4, 2011, because of a hamstring injury. He was later released from the team.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
On October 18, 2011, Chad joined the practice squad for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A practice squad is a group of players who train with the team but are not on the main roster. He was released from the practice squad on November 7, 2011.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Chad signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers on January 4, 2012. He played in one playoff game for the Steelers on January 8, 2012, against the Denver Broncos. He was released by the team on May 2, 2012.
New York Jets
