The Chandless River is a river that flows through two countries: Peru and Brazil. It's located in the western part of Brazil, specifically in the Acre state.

This river was named after a British explorer called William Chandless. The Chandless River is a tributary of the Purus River. This means it's a smaller river that flows into the larger Purus River.

Journey of the Chandless River

The Chandless River starts its journey in Peru. After flowing for some distance, it crosses the border and enters Brazil.

Flowing Through Chandless State Park

Once in Brazil, the river flows towards the northeast. It passes through a special protected area called the Chandless State Park. This park was created in 2004.

The park is very large, covering about 695,303 hectares (that's like 1.7 million acres!). Its main purpose is to protect a beautiful rainforest. This rainforest is unique because it has many bamboos. It's also home to various plants and animals that are found nowhere else in the world.

Main Streams Joining the River

As the Chandless River flows through the park, it gets water from smaller streams. The two most important streams that join it in this area are the Cuchichá and Chandless-chá streams. The Cuchichá stream even forms the northern border of the park until it meets the Chandless River.

Where the River Ends

After leaving the park, the Chandless River continues its journey. It eventually joins the Purus River, which is located to the north of the park.
