Channel Islands Beach is a small community in Ventura County, California, USA. It is not a city, but an "unincorporated community." This means it is governed by the county, not its own city government.

This area includes three older neighborhoods: Hollywood Beach, Hollywood by the Sea, and Silver Strand Beach. It's a narrow strip of land along the coast, about 1.3 miles (2.1 km) long. In the 1920s, developers used the fame of Hollywood to sell land here. This was because the sand dunes were often used for filming movies.

Today, Channel Islands Beach is surrounded by the Channel Islands Harbor and Naval Base Ventura County. The harbor entrance divides the community into two parts. This means you have to drive all the way around the harbor to get from one part to the other. However, a local group called the Channel Islands Beach Community Services District helps provide services like water and trash collection to the whole area. This district has an elected board that helps with local issues.

The community is close to the cities of Oxnard and Port Hueneme. However, it is not part of either city. The population of Channel Islands Beach was 2,870 people in 2020. For official statistics, the U.S. Census Bureau calls it a "census-designated place" (CDP).

Exploring the Area's Geography

Channel Islands Beach is a coastal community that looks out over the Santa Barbara Channel. Just north of Hollywood Beach is Oxnard Beach Park. This park separates Channel Islands Beach from the Oxnard Shores neighborhood of Oxnard.

The community was created from three main land divisions:

  • Hollywood Beach (mapped in 1924)
  • Hollywood by the Sea (mapped in 1926)
  • Silver Strand (mapped in 1925)

When the mouth of the Channel Islands Harbor was built, it cut through the Hollywood-by-the-Sea area. Some parts of Hollywood Beach are still north of the harbor entrance. These areas are next to the harbor and other homes that are now part of Oxnard. The part of the community south of the harbor entrance is more separate. It has only one road for access. The Silver Strand Beach area covers most of the shoreline south of the harbor entrance. It is near the Port of Hueneme but does not have direct access to it.

The area is part of the Hueneme School District.

Weather and Climate

Channel Islands Beach has a pleasant climate. Summers are warm but not too hot, and they are usually dry. The average monthly temperatures do not go above 71.6°F (22°C). This type of weather is known as a "warm-summer Mediterranean climate." On climate maps, it is often called "Csb."
