Chapel Hill is a small, quiet community. It is located in Middletown Township. This area is part of Monmouth County in New Jersey. As its name suggests, Chapel Hill sits on a high spot. It is found between Fairview and Leonardo.
Unlike some other parts of Middletown, Chapel Hill is not heavily built up. You will find fewer single-family homes here. Most houses are located near the main roads. These roads are Kings Highway and Chapel Hill Road. The rest of the area is mostly open space. It features beautiful horse farms and peaceful forestland.

History of Chapel Hill
A Former Military Site
Chapel Hill was once home to a special military site. This site was part of Project Nike. It was a place where missiles were stored. The site was located near Normandy Road. This road connects different parts of the Naval Weapons Station Earle.
A Tragic Event
In May 1958, a sad event happened at the site. There was an accident involving military equipment. This accident caused a large explosion. Ten workers at the site lost their lives. It was a very difficult day for the community.
Site Closure and Memorial
The United States Army managed the site. They operated it until 1960. All military activities stopped completely by 1963. Today, there is a special memorial. It honors those who died in the accident. This memorial is located at Fort Hancock. Fort Hancock is in Sandy Hook, not far from Chapel Hill.
