About the Sandy Charisma Snail
The shell of the sandy charisma snail is very small. It grows to about 2 mm tall and 2 mm wide. That's about the size of a tiny bead!
What Does Its Shell Look Like?
The shell is solid and has a shape like a spinning top, which is called "turbinate." It's usually a dull white color. The shell has four to five whorls, which are the spiral turns of the shell. These whorls are rounded.
The very first whorls are smooth. But the rest of the shell has spiral ridges. These ridges are easy to see and there are about 11 to 13 of them around the opening of the shell. The spaces between these ridges are wider than the ridges themselves.
Special Features of the Shell
The shell has a deep hole called an umbilicus. This hole goes from the back of the central pillar (called the columella) to the front opening of the shell. Sometimes, a strong thread or line runs along the edge of this hole. The bottom of the shell is round, and the edge of the shell's opening, called the lip, is thick.
Where Does This Snail Live?
This marine snail is found only in Australia. It lives off the coasts of South Australia, Victoria, and Tasmania. When a species is found only in one specific area, it is called endemic to that place.
