Charles Cyphers (born July 28, 1939 – died August 4, 2024) was an American actor. He was well-known for his roles in horror movies, especially those directed by John Carpenter. Many people remember him as Sheriff Leigh Brackett in Carpenter's famous 1978 movie, Halloween. He played this character again in the 1981 movie Halloween II and the 2021 film Halloween Kills.

Charles Cyphers' Acting Career
Movies
Charles Cyphers started his movie career in 1974 with the film Truck Turner. He first worked with director John Carpenter in 1976. This was for the action movie Assault on Precinct 13. In this film, he played Starker, a police officer.
He became very famous for his role as Sheriff Leigh Brackett in the 1978 horror hit Halloween. Two years later, Cyphers worked with Carpenter again. He played Dan O'Bannon in The Fog, a horror movie from 1980. This movie also featured Jamie Lee Curtis, who was also in Halloween.
In 1981, he played the Secretary of State in Carpenter's popular movie Escape from New York. He then returned to his role as Sheriff Brackett in Halloween II. Later, in 2021, he played Sheriff Brackett one more time in the movie Halloween Kills.
Television Shows
Charles Cyphers appeared in many television shows. In the 1970s, he had a regular role as Hugo Muncy on The Betty White Show. He also appeared as a guest star in popular shows like Barnaby Jones, Wonder Woman, and The Dukes of Hazzard. He also played Drake in the 1977 mini-series Roots.
More recently, Cyphers was seen in shows such as Sliders, ER, Seinfeld, and JAG. From 1996 to 1998, he played Al Yaroker in the series Nick Freno: Licensed Teacher. He also acted in several movies made for television.
On Stage and Other Work
Besides movies and TV, Charles Cyphers also acted in plays. He performed on stage both on and off Broadway. One of his notable roles was "Juror #3" in the play 12 Angry Men.
In 1967, Cyphers appeared on The Dating Game. This was a popular TV show where people competed for a date. He was trying to win a date with Yvonne Craig, who played Batgirl in the 1960s Batman TV show.
Death
Charles Cyphers passed away in Tucson, Arizona, on August 4, 2024. He was 85 years old.
