Early Life and Learning

Dr. Stevens loved to learn. He earned several degrees from the University of Minnesota. These included a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Science, a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Getting a DVM means he was trained to be an animal doctor. A PhD means he was an expert researcher in his field.

Teaching and Research Career

Dr. Stevens spent 18 years at Cornell University. There, he was a professor and a research scientist. He also led departments like Physiology, Biology, and Pharmacology. This means he guided other scientists and teachers.

In 1980, Dr. Stevens moved to North Carolina State University. He played a big part in starting their new Veterinary School. He became a leader there, helping to guide research and graduate studies. Before he retired in 1992, he also served as an Associate Vice Chancellor. This shows he was a very important leader at the university.

Awards and Honors

Dr. Stevens received many special honors for his work. He was the President of the American Association of Veterinary Physiologists and Pharmacology. This is a group for experts in animal body functions and medicines.

He was also a Fulbright Scholar. This is a special award that lets experts travel to other countries to teach and do research. He became an honorary professor at National University of San Marcos in Lima, Peru. This means the university recognized his great knowledge.

Dr. Stevens was also given the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Minnesota. This award celebrates former students who have achieved great things. He was also the second person to become an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Comparative Nutrition Society. This group studies how different animals get their food and nutrients.
