Charles James Showers (born January 12, 1848 – date of death unknown) was an English cricket player. He played in a type of professional cricket called first-class cricket.
Early Life and Education
Charles James Showers was born in January 1848 in Fort William, which was part of British India at the time. His father was a high-ranking army officer named Major-General St George Daniel Showers.
Charles went to school in England. He studied at two well-known schools: Cheltenham College and Wellington College.
Cricket Career
Charles James Showers played first-class cricket, which is the highest level of domestic cricket. It involves matches between major teams over several days.
He played his first big match in 1877. This was for the South team in a special game called the North v South fixture, played in Hull. This match was a chance for the best players from the North of England to play against the best from the South.
Four years later, in 1881, he played two more first-class matches. This time, he played for the famous Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). These games were against Kent and Hampshire. Both of these matches took place at Lord's, which is a very famous cricket ground in London.
Later Life
After his cricket career, Charles James Showers moved to Assam, a region in India. There, he became a tea planter. This means he managed and worked on a large farm where tea plants were grown and harvested.
