Charles Thomas (born October 3, 1969) is an American basketball coach and former professional player. He played as a point guard and was part of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Thomas also played in other American leagues and spent four seasons in the Australian NBL. He is the twin brother of former NBA player Carl Thomas.

Charles Thomas: From Player to Coach

Charles Thomas has had a long and successful career in basketball. He started as a player and later became a coach. His journey took him from high school courts to professional leagues around the world.

Early Life and College Basketball

Charles Thomas was born in Dayton, Ohio. He grew up with a passion for basketball. He attended Everett High School in Lansing, Michigan.

After high school, Thomas went on to play college basketball. He played for Eastern Michigan University from 1987 to 1991. Playing in college helped him develop his skills even further.

Playing Professionally

After college, Charles Thomas became a professional basketball player. He joined the Detroit Pistons for the 1991–1992 NBA season. This was a big step in his career.

After his time in the NBA, Thomas played in several other American leagues. These included the Continental Basketball Association, United States Basketball League, International Basketball Association, and International Basketball League. He played for many different teams during these eight years.

Success in Australia

Charles Thomas also played basketball internationally. He spent four seasons in the Australian NBL. He played two seasons with the Wollongong Hawks. With the Hawks, he helped them win the NBL championship in the 2000–01 season. This was a major highlight of his playing career.

After his time with the Hawks, he played two more seasons in Australia. He joined the Adelaide 36ers before he finished his playing career.

Coaching Career

After retiring as a player in 2006, Charles Thomas began a new chapter as a basketball coach. He started as an assistant coach at Radford University for the 2006–2007 season.

He then moved on to coach at Northwood University from 2007 to 2009. From 2009 to 2017, he was an assistant coach for the Akron Zips.

Later, he coached at Duquesne University from 2017 to 2023. Most recently, he was an assistant coach at Saint Louis University for the 2023–2024 season. Charles Thomas continues to share his knowledge and love for basketball with younger players.
