Area and population statistics from the 2011 Census |
Charlestown is a special area, called a ward, located in the northern part of Manchester, England. In 2011, about 14,332 people lived here. People in Charlestown vote to choose three representatives, called councillors, to work for them on the Manchester City Council.
This ward is mostly found in the lower area of a suburb called Blackley. The Blackley Golf Club helps mark the edge of the ward. Charlestown is part of two different areas that elect Members of Parliament (MPs). Most of the ward is in the Blackley and Broughton area. A smaller part, in Moston, is in the Manchester Central area.
Your Local Councillors
Councillors are like local leaders who represent the people in their ward. They help make decisions about things that affect your local area, like parks, roads, and community services. In Charlestown, three councillors currently serve the ward. They are Basil Curley, Hannah Priest, and Veronica Kirkpatrick. All three are from the Labour Party.
People in Charlestown vote in local elections to choose who their councillors will be. These elections happen regularly, giving everyone a chance to pick who they want to represent them on the city council.
