Charles Grandison Rose III (born August 10, 1939 – died September 3, 2012) was an American lawyer and politician. He served in the United States House of Representatives for North Carolina from 1973 to 1997. This means he helped make laws for the country.

Growing Up and School
Charlie Rose was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He went to college at Davidson College. Later, he studied law at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. When he was in college, he even worked as a photographer for a newspaper.
His Work in Politics
Starting His Career
Charlie Rose started his career as a lawyer. In 1967, he became a prosecutor in Fayetteville. This meant he worked to bring people who broke laws to court.
In 1970, he tried to become a Congressman but didn't win. He tried again in 1972 and won. This made him a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Representing North Carolina
Rose represented a part of North Carolina that stretched from Fayetteville to Wilmington. He was known for supporting farmers, especially tobacco farmers. This made him very popular in his area.
He was part of important groups in Congress. These included the Intelligence and Agriculture Committees. He also led the United States House Committee on House Administration from 1991 to 1994. This job earned him the nickname "mayor of the Capitol." It meant he helped manage how Congress worked.
Technology and Investigations
Charlie Rose was very interested in new technology. He helped bring computers and fiber optics to Congress. He also pushed for Congress's activities to be shown on TV through C-SPAN. He was behind many technology improvements in Congress. He even had an electric car in the 1970s!
In 1991, Rose led a special investigation. This group looked into how the government sold military supplies to Iraq.
After Congress
After 1994, Charlie Rose decided to leave Congress. He then became a lobbyist. A lobbyist works to influence lawmakers on behalf of certain groups. His former intern, Mike McIntyre, took his place in Congress in 1997.
His Family and Later Life
Charlie Rose was married three times and had four children. He had three children with his first wife, Sara. One of his daughters, Irene, passed away when she was a baby. He adopted a daughter, Kelly, with his second wife, Joan. He had another daughter, Parker, with his third wife, Stacye.
His Passing
In 2009, Rose moved to Albertville, Alabama. He passed away on September 3, 2012. He had been living with Parkinson's disease.
