Charyl Yannis Chappuis (born January 12, 1992) is a professional football player. He plays as a midfielder for the Thai League 2 club Bangkok. Charyl was born in Switzerland, but he has also played for the Thailand national team.

Early Football Days

Charyl Chappuis started his football journey with a local club called FC Kloten. He then moved to SC YF Juventus to play in their youth teams. In July 2003, when he was about 11 years old, he joined Grasshopper Club, a big team in Switzerland.

Club Career Highlights

Playing for Grasshoppers

Chappuis grew up playing in the Grasshopper youth system. He often played for the reserve team. He also trained with the main senior team, but he didn't get to play in their official matches.

Loan Spells: Locarno and Lugano

To get more experience playing in real games, Chappuis was loaned to FC Locarno for the 2011–2012 season. He played his first game for Locarno on July 25, 2011. He even scored his first goal for them on November 20, 2011. After that, he was loaned out again, this time to FC Lugano for the 2012–2013 season. He played his first game for Lugano on July 14, 2012.

Moving to Thailand: Buriram United

In 2013, Chappuis moved to Thailand and joined Buriram United. He scored his first goal for Buriram against Suphanburi. He also scored a goal in the 2013 AFC Champions League against Jiangsu Sainty. Unfortunately, he twisted his knee while celebrating that goal and was out of play for three months.

Time with Suphanburi

After playing for Suphanburi on loan in 2014, Chappuis officially joined Suphanburi F.C. for the 2015 season. However, he missed the entire 2015 season because of a knee injury that needed surgery. He also missed the 2015 SEA Games. After being out for almost 16 months, Chappuis finally returned to play in a friendly match in 2016. He made his league comeback on May 8, 2016.

Later Clubs

After his time at Suphanburi, Chappuis continued his career in Thailand. From 2017 to 2019, he played for Muangthong United. He then moved to Port in 2020, where he played until 2024. During 2023-2024, he also had a loan spell at Chiangmai. As of 2024, he plays for Bangkok.

International Career

Playing for Switzerland

Chappuis played for Switzerland's youth national teams. In 2009, he was part of the Swiss under-17 team that won the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup. They beat Nigeria 1–0 in the final game. Chappuis played in all seven matches during that tournament.

Playing for Thailand

Later, Chappuis was called to play for the Thailand U23 team. He won a gold medal with Thailand at the 2013 Southeast Asian Games. He also joined the senior squad and helped them win the 2014 AFF Championship. In that tournament, Chappuis scored a penalty in the last minute against Singapore to win 2–1. He scored again against Malaysia. In the final, he scored another penalty, helping Thailand win the championship. After being out for 20 months due to injury, Chappuis returned to the national team in August 2016.

Chappuis grew up in Kloten, Switzerland. His father is Swiss and his mother is Thai. He can speak German, English, and French very well. He has also become much better at speaking Thai. His favorite football team is Barcelona. He also dreams of playing in the Bundesliga, which is a top football league in Germany. In 2018, his Instagram account gained over one million followers. Chappuis got engaged to Helena Busch, a Thai model, on February 14, 2021.
