Exploring Chauncey's Location

Chauncey is situated right next to Sunday Creek. This creek flows into the Hocking River nearby. Some parts of the village are in a low area, which means they can sometimes experience flooding.

The United States Census Bureau tells us that the village covers a total area of about 1.43 square kilometers (0.55 square miles). All of this area is land.

A Glimpse into Chauncey's Past

Chauncey was officially established in 1839. The village was named after Elihu Chauncey, who was a businessman involved in the mining industry. This shows how important mining was to the area back then. A post office, which helps people send and receive mail, has been operating in Chauncey since 1838, even before the village was formally laid out.
