Exploring Chauncey's Location
Chauncey is situated right next to Sunday Creek. This creek flows into the Hocking River nearby. Some parts of the village are in a low area, which means they can sometimes experience flooding.

A Glimpse into Chauncey's Past
Chauncey was officially established in 1839. The village was named after Elihu Chauncey, who was a businessman involved in the mining industry. This shows how important mining was to the area back then. A post office, which helps people send and receive mail, has been operating in Chauncey since 1838, even before the village was formally laid out.

The community also owns a large park called the Chauncey-Dover Community Park. This park is about 127 acres (0.51 square kilometers) in size. It used to be land that was used for strip mining, but it was given to the village by the United States Forest Service to be used as a park.
