The snack was invented by a man named Morrie Yohai. Today, Wise Foods makes them. This company is based in Pennsylvania.
The Story of Cheez Doodles
How Cheez Doodles Began
Cheez Doodles were first made by King Kone Corp. This company was in the Bronx, New York. The owner, Morrie Yohai, developed the snack. King Kone Corp. started in the 1920s. They used to make ice cream cones, crackers, and popcorn.
In the early 1960s, the company got a new machine. This machine could make three-inch pieces of cornmeal. They baked these pieces. Then, they added orange cheddar cheese powder and other flavors. This created a brand new snack food! Morrie Yohai said the name "Cheez Doodles" came to him. He was sitting with his team, trying out different cheese flavors.
Who Owns Cheez Doodles Now?
In the mid-1960s, a company called Borden bought King Kone Corp. Borden then put Cheez Doodles under its Wise potato chip division. Later, in 1997, a company called KKR & Co. bought most of Borden. Then, in 2002, Palladium Equity Partners bought Wise Foods.
Today, Arca Continental owns Wise Foods. Arca Continental is a very large company. They are the second-biggest bottler of Coca-Cola in North and Central America. They bought Wise in 2012. Cheez Doodles are still one of Wise's most popular snacks. In 2010, they made 15 million pounds of them!
