Cheltenham is a small community located about 13 kilometers (8 miles) northeast of Feilding. It's found in the Manawatū District, which is part of the Manawatū-Whanganui region. This area is right in the middle of New Zealand's North Island.

History of Cheltenham

Cheltenham got its name from a town in England. One of the first settlers, W. Mills, came from Cheltenham in England. The community was once home to the Cheltenham Co-operative Dairy Company. This company started in 1893. Later, in 1920, the dairy factory moved to Makino in Feilding.

Local Government and Schools

The area of Cheltenham is part of the Rangitikei electorate. An electorate is a special area that chooses a person to represent them in the country's government. Cheltenham Public School opened in 1886. It taught students for 130 years before closing its doors in 2016.

Education in Cheltenham

Cheltenham is home to Hato Paora College. This is a special type of school called a state-integrated school. It's a Catholic secondary school just for boys. Students from Year 9 to Year 13 attend Hato Paora College. As of February 2024, the school has a roll of 77 students.
