The Chemistry Building is a special place at The University of Melbourne in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It's where students learn all about chemistry! This building was designed by Percy Edgar Everett and finished in 1938. It was built during a time when the University was growing a lot.

The building has a unique look, mixing old-style gothic architecture with newer ideas from the time it was built. Because of its special design and history, it's considered very important by the National Trust of Australia.

What Does It Look Like?

The Chemistry Building has a cool design called Collegiate Gothic style. This means it looks a bit like old university buildings, but with a modern twist. You'll notice its cream-colored bricks and strong, blocky shapes. The tower also has lots of interesting details.

In recent years, the inside of the Chemistry Building has been updated. This was done to make sure it has the latest technology for chemistry research.

Who Helped Design It?

Back in the 1930s, the University of Melbourne really valued the ideas of experts. Because of this, a chemistry professor named Ernst Johannes Hartung helped design the inside of the building. He made sure it had everything needed for chemistry research.

The Masson Theatre inside the chemistry school is also very old and special. It used to have huge blackboards that rolled up and down! Even though those are gone, the theatre has been updated to be safe while keeping its original feel.
