Chemult is a small community in Oregon, United States. It's located in Klamath County, right on U.S. Route 97. This important road is near the place where rivers start flowing towards either the Klamath River or the Columbia River. Chemult is quite high up, about 4,764 feet (1,452 meters) above sea level. Only about 80 people live here, making it a very quiet place.

A Look Back: Chemult's Story
Chemult started in 1924 as a train station. It was first called "Knott" during its construction. When the train line opened in 1926, the station's name changed to Chemult. A post office was also opened that same year.
How Chemult Got Its Name
The name Chemult comes from a Klamath chief. He was one of 26 chiefs who signed an important agreement. This agreement was called the Klamath Lake Treaty. It was signed on October 14, 1864.
