Miguel Porlán Noguera (born 12 October 1961), known as Chendo, is a Spanish former football player. He played as a right-back, which means he defended the right side of the field. Chendo spent his entire professional career playing for Real Madrid. He played in 497 official games and won many important titles with the team.

Chendo also played for the Spanish national team. He was chosen to represent his country in two World Cups.

Playing for Real Madrid

Chendo was born in Totana, a town in the Region of Murcia, Spain. He played for Real Madrid for 17 seasons. During his time there, he helped the team win seven La Liga titles (the top Spanish league). They also won two Copa del Rey trophies, one UEFA Champions League, and two UEFA Cups in a row.

Chendo joined Real Madrid when he was 15 years old. He spent five years in the club's youth teams. He made his first appearance for the main team on 11 April 1982. This was in a game against Castellón, which Real Madrid won 2–1.

Becoming a Starter

Chendo got his chance to play regularly at the start of the 1983–84 season. The usual right-back, Juan José, was injured. When Juan José came back, Chendo sometimes sat on the bench. However, he ended that season as the main player for his position. He played in 26 official games that year.

In his fourth year, during the 1984–85 season, Chendo became the definite starter. He played in 25 league matches and 11 European games. At the end of that season, Real Madrid won the UEFA Cup. They beat the Hungarian team Fehérvár with a total score of 3–1 over two games. They also won the Copa de la Liga by beating Atlético Madrid 4–3. Chendo played in both of these final matches.

Winning Many Titles

For the next eight seasons, Chendo was a key player for Real Madrid. During this time, the team won five league titles in a row. From 1992 to 1995, he played in fewer league games. Other players like Nando, Luis Enrique, and Paco Llorente sometimes took his spot.

Even though he played in 23 games in the 1995–96 season, he was often a backup player. He was a respected leader on the bench, offering support to his teammates.

Retirement from Playing

Chendo stopped playing professional football when he was almost 37 years old. This was after Real Madrid won their seventh European Cup on 20 May 1998. They beat Juventus in the final, though Chendo did not play in that specific match. After retiring, Chendo immediately started working for Real Madrid. He became a match delegate, a role he has held for over two decades.

Playing for Spain

Chendo played 26 games for the Spanish national team. He represented Spain in the 1986 and 1990 FIFA World Cups. In 1986, he was a backup to Tomás. In 1990, he was a starter. In total, he played in five World Cup matches.

His first game for Spain was on 22 January 1986. It was a friendly match against the Soviet Union in Las Palmas.

Chendo won many trophies during his career, especially with Real Madrid.
