Cheney State Park is a cool state park located in Kansas, United States. It was finished in 1964. You can find it in Kingman and Reno counties. The park is about 5 miles north of Cheney and 20 miles west of Wichita.
The park is split into two main parts. It covers about 1,913 acres (7.7 square kilometers). The park sits right next to the huge Cheney Reservoir. This reservoir is about 6,800 acres (27.5 square kilometers) big. It is known as one of the best places in the United States for sailing.

Fun Activities at Cheney State Park
Cheney State Park offers many exciting things to do. If you love being on the water, this is the place for you. The Ninnescah Sailing Association has special areas for sailing. There is also a marina where you can get supplies for your boat. Fishermen can find what they need there too.
Trails and Fishing Spots
If you enjoy walking or hiking, there are nature trails. You can explore these trails at Giefer Creek and Spring Creek. For those who love to fish, there's a special fishing area. It's called the Toadstool Loop Jetty. This spot is made to be easy for everyone to use.
Park Facilities and Camping
Cheney State Park has lots of great facilities for visitors. There are 29 miles of paved roads for driving and parking. The park has an office where you can get information. There are also two marinas for boats.
Camping Options
You can choose from many camping spots. There are 223 sites with electricity and water hookups. If you prefer a more natural experience, there are over 400 basic camp sites. The park also has four places to dump waste from trailers.
Boating and Comforts
For boaters, there are six boat ramps with 22 lanes. This makes it easy to launch your boat. There are also four courtesy docks. After a day of fishing, you can use one of the two fish cleaning stations. The park has modern restrooms and nine shower houses.
Group Areas and Cabins
If you are visiting with a group, there are several shelters. One shelter has restrooms. There are also two large group shelters and two medium ones. You can find 29 smaller picnic shelters too. There is a special group camping area with 20 utility sites. This area also has a large shelter and a restroom. For a more comfortable stay, you can rent one of the seven modern cabins.
Cheney Wildlife Area
Next to Cheney State Park is the Cheney Wildlife Area. This area is about 5,200 acres (21 square kilometers) big. It's a fantastic place to see wild animals. You can also take amazing nature photos here. During certain times, hunting is allowed.
Protecting Migratory Birds
A special refuge is set aside within the wildlife area. This refuge is for migratory waterfowl. These are birds that travel long distances. To protect these birds, the refuge is closed from September 15 to March 15. After March 15, you can visit for fishing and other non-hunting activities.
