Cher Korver (born 11 August 1976) is a famous Dutch wheelchair basketball player. She is a key member of the Netherlands women's national wheelchair basketball team. Cher has a 2.5 disability class. This means her muscle power in her legs is affected.
She has competed in many Summer Paralympics with her team. She won a gold medal at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo. She also earned bronze medals at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London and the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro. In 2018, she became a world champion. She also won European championships in 2017 and 2019.
Early Life and Start in Sport
Cher Korver was born in Amersfoort, Netherlands, on 11 August 1976. When she was 19 years old, she experienced impaired muscle power in her legs. This led her to discover wheelchair basketball.
She started playing the sport in 1997. Just one year later, in 1998, she joined the national team. Her first big competition with the team was the 1998 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship. She also took part in the 2008 Paralympic World Cup.
Achievements and Recognition
Cher Korver has achieved a lot in her career. She has been a part of the national team for many years. She competed in six Paralympic Games in a row, from 2000 to 2020.
Her team won gold at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. They also won gold at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. These are huge achievements for any athlete.
In 2014, Cher received the Rob Verheuvel Award. This award recognized her important contributions to wheelchair basketball. Today, she lives in Nijkerk, Netherlands.
