A Look at Cheraw's Past
How Cheraw Began
Cheraw became an official town on April 17, 1917. That same year, it was quite special. It was the smallest town anywhere with its own regimental band. A regimental band is a group of musicians who play for a military unit.

In 1920, the town had 186 people living in 49 homes. Most adults in Cheraw were not born in Colorado. They had moved there from other parts of the Midwest. A good number of people, about 15%, had moved from Mexico in the ten years before.
