Cherokee Central Schools (Cherokee: ᏣᎳᎩ ᏧᎾᏕᎶᏆᏍᏗ ᏚᏓᏥᏍᎬᎢ tsalagi tsunadeloquasdi dudatsisgvi) is a special group of schools located in Cherokee, North Carolina. It's like one big campus where students from kindergarten all the way to 12th grade go to school. This campus has an elementary school (for K-5), a middle school (for grades 6-8), and a high school called Cherokee High School (for grades 9-12). It's a unique place because it's located on the historic Ravensford archaeological site. In 1987–88, the elementary school even won an award, being recognized as a Blue Ribbon School for its excellence!

About Cherokee Central Schools

Cherokee Central Schools is a school district, which means it's a system that manages public schools in a certain area. This district is special because it serves the Eastern Cherokee Reservation. This area is located in both Swain County and Jackson County.

How Are These Schools Run?

The schools work closely with the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE). The BIE is a part of the United States government that helps support education for Native American students. This means the schools get support and guidance to provide a great education for the students on the reservation.

The district also has its own school board. A school board is a group of people who make important decisions about how the schools are run. By 1996, this school board worked with the Cherokee Boys' Club. This club helped manage the school district's money, ran the cafeterias where students eat, and even operated the school buses that take students to and from school. This partnership helps make sure everything runs smoothly for the students and staff.
