Cherry Blossom was a special kind of chocolate candy made by Hershey Canada. Sadly, it was stopped being made in 2025.
This sweet treat had a maraschino cherry and cherry syrup inside. This yummy center was surrounded by a mix of chocolate, shredded coconut, and crunchy roasted peanut pieces. Cherry Blossoms always came in bright yellow boxes. Many people thought the liquid filling was squirted into the chocolate. But actually, the cherry candy was coated with a special helper called an enzyme named invertase. This enzyme slowly turned the solid cherry into a liquid over about one to two weeks.

The Story of Cherry Blossom Candy
How Cherry Blossom Began
The Cherry Blossom candy has a long history! It was first made way back in the 1890s. A company called the Walter M. Lowney Company in Canada started making it. Mr. Lowney was an important person who opened his candy factory. His company grew, and so did the popularity of the Cherry Blossom candy.
Changes in Ownership
Over the years, the company that made Cherry Blossom candy changed hands a few times. In 1968, the Walter M. Lowney Company of Canada became part of a company called Standard Brands. Then, in 1981, two big companies, Nabisco and Standard Brands, joined together. This new company then owned the Lowney division. Finally, in 1987, Hershey Canada bought the candy part of Nabisco. This included the Lowney brand and, of course, the Cherry Blossom candy.
Moving Factories and Saying Goodbye
The Lowney candy factory used to be in a city called Sherbrooke, Quebec. But in 1989, that factory closed. All the Lowney chocolate making, including Cherry Blossoms, moved to an existing Hershey factory. This new factory was in Smiths Falls, Ontario. The Smiths Falls factory later closed in 2012.
In January 2025, Hershey announced that they would no longer make Cherry Blossoms. After this news, many grocery stores saw a big increase in people buying the candy. Everyone wanted to get their last taste of the Cherry Blossom!
