Cheshire is a small, unincorporated community in Lane County, Oregon, United States. It is located near the Long Tom River. You can find it southwest of Junction City on Oregon Route 36. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.
A Look Back: The Story of Cheshire
Cheshire started as a train station on the Southern Pacific Railroad line. This was back in 1913. The station was first named Hubert.
However, there was another station called Huber on the same train line. This caused a lot of confusion! So, in 1914, the railroad company decided to change the name. They chose "Cheshire" instead.
The Cheshire post office also opened in 1914. Both the names "Hubert" and "Cheshire" were chosen to honor a local favorite person, James Hubert Cheshire.
